The Brain's Way of Healing: Remarkable Discoveries and Recoveries from the Frontiers of Neuroplasticity #1 Globe and Mail Nonfiction Bestseller #1 Toronto Star Nonfiction Bestseller Praise for The Brain’s Way of Healing

#1 Globe and Mail Nonfiction Bestseller #1 Toronto Star Nonfiction Bestseller Praise for The Brain’s Way of Healing “Brilliant and highly original. Neurology used to be considered a depressing discipline with patients often displaying fascinating but essentially untreatable symptoms and disabilities. Drawing on the last three decades of research, Doidge challenges this view, using vivid portraits of patients and their physicians. The book is a treasure trove of the author’s own deep insights and a clear bright light of optimism shines through every page.” —V. S. Ramachandran, MD, PhD, neurologist, neuroscientist, and author of The Tell-Tale Brain (W. W. Norton, 2011), Director, UCSD Center for Brain and Cognition “A tour de force. In one of the most riveting books on the human brain and its mystery powers ever written, Doidge addresses the role of alternative medical therapies to reset and re-sync the dynamic patterns of ‘energy in our brain, whit the ability to restore relatively normal health to those whose fate seems hopeless. . . . These are people that traditional medicine all but abandoned as . . . untreatable. But they were rescued. . . . It’s possible to start anywhere in the book and be mesmerized.” —Huffington Post “An exciting overview of powerful new neuroscience theories that connect mind, body, and soul . . . In this age of distraction and unnatural environments and actions—like staring at screens all day—brain science offers all kinds of useful techniques to care for our infinitely complex selves. Norman Doidge’s work is a Michelin Guide to this hopeful new trove of knowledge and insight.” —Boston Globe, USA “Stunning . . . The Brain’s Way of Healing is another groundbreaking book by Norman Doidge. His style keeps you going into the deep dark secrets of how the brain works. . . . [H]is reframing of remarkable treatments that I had categorized as gimmicky left me fascinated and humbled. He brings a whole new level of insight into the body, brain, mind connection that will impact any reader.” — John J. Ratey, MD, Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School and author of Driven to Distraction “Bold, remarkable . . . paradigm challenging. The Brain’s Way of Healing is brilliantly organized, scientifically documented, and a beautifully written narrative that captivates the reader, who is left with the profound message that the brain, similar to other organs, can heal.” —Stephen W. Porges, PhD, Indiana University Bloomington and author of The Polyvagal Theory “Doidge’s book is filled with compelling stories about the power of ingenious technologies and disciplined awareness methods generated by innovators who transcended their own brain challenges, and who now use them to help others make radical improvements in conditions often deemed hopeless. It points to a future of remarkable and unprecedented brain healing.” —Martha Herbert, MD, PhD, Neurologist, Harvard Medical School, and Massachusetts General Hospital, author of The Autism Revolution “The Brain’s way of Healing is a stunner—the sort of book you want to read several times, not because it is difficult to understand, but because it opens up so many novel and startling avenues into our potential to heal. Norman Doidge enthralls us with a rich combination of lucidly explained brain research and pioneering new (and some not so new, but not widely known) approaches to recovery. With an eloquence reminiscent of Oliver Sacks, Doidge bolsters the latest advances in brain science with a series of extraordinary case histories of people for whom all hope seemed to be lost, but who healed as a result of great personal courage, and by changing the ways their bodies and brains processed sensations and movement. This hopeful book demonstrates that a variety of sensory inputs—light, sound, electricity, vibration, movement, and thought—can awaken the brain’s attention processors, and thereby allow even the most afflicted to (re)gain ownership of their lives. —Bessel van der Kolk MD, Medical Director, the Trauma Center, Brookline MA; Professor of Psychiatry, Boston University School of Medicine; Author of The Body keeps the Score: Mind, Brain and Body in the healing of Trauma “The book offers real hope to individuals suffering from diverse chronic conditions. It shows in terms of graphic personal stories that we truly do not yet know the limits of what is possible in rehabilitation. The book also has a number of creative integrations of the data that will be of interest to neuroscientists.” —Edward Taub, Ph.D., Behavioral Neuroscientist, University Professor,University of Alabama at Birmingham, Director, UAB CI Therapy Research Group and Taub Training Clinic “Everyone who has a brain could benefit from reading Doidge’s book.” —The Columbus Dispatch “A vivid, robust and optimistic read . . . an essential addition to our growing understanding of the mind-brain-body connection. Doidge argues quite convincingly that when the brain is damaged or incompletely formed, whether from stroke, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, autism, ADHD or a host of other conditions, it’s entirely possible to “rewire” the circuits by training a different part of the brain to take over the task. . . . He's positively elegant in his crystalline explanations of brain science for a lay audience.” —Toronto Star, Canada “This is a book of miracles: an absorbing compendium of unlikely recoveries from physical and mental ailments offers evidence that the brain can heal. Fascinating . . . brings to mind Oliver Sacks.” —Guardian “Dazzling . . . In friendly vignettes reminiscent of Oliver Sacks’s case studies, Doidge chronicles the heroic efforts of patients with a wide variety of apparently intractable ailments, from chronic pain to multiple sclerosis. . . . Each of Doidge’s examples suggests tangible treatment ideas for patients who may have thought they were out of options. Doidge’s penchant for considering unconventional approaches to healing offers hope for all.” —Bookpage, USA “Beautifully written . . . inspiring . . . merging scientific information into timeless and fascinating personal stories . . . The Brain's Way of Healing grabs onto the reader at once and compels them to keep reading. This is an important and encouraging book.” —The Vancouver Sun, Canada “Exhilarating science . . . In an era of ever-increasing medicalisation of the human mind, and the medication of it, the appeal of neuroplasticity outlined by Doidge is addictive. It is inspiring, page-turning stuff.” —Sunday Times, London “A fascinating study on brain science that shows the way to major therapeutic discoveries.” —Library Journal About the Author NORMAN DOIDGE, M.D., is a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and New York Times bestselling author. He is on the research faculty at Columbia University’s Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research in New York City and on the faculty of the University of Toronto’s Department of Psychiatry as well. He lives in Toronto.

Medical Medium Thyroid Healing: The Truth behind Hashimoto's, Graves', Insomnia, Hypothyroidism, Thyroid Nodules & Epstein-Barr by Anthony William

“Within the first three minutes of speaking with me, Anthony precisely identified my medical issue! This healer really knows what he’s talking about. Anthony’s abilities as the Medical Medium are unique and fascinating.” — Alejandro Junger, M.D., New York Times best-selling author of Clean, Clean Eats, and Clean Gut and founder of the acclaimed Clean Program “Anthony is a trusted source for our family. His work in the world is a light that has guided many to safety. He means so much to us.” — Robert De Niro and Grace Hightower De Niro “While there is most definitely an element of otherworldly mystery to the work he does, much of what Anthony William shines a spotlight on—particularly around autoimmune disease—feels inherently right and true. What’s better is that the protocols he recommends are natural, accessible, and easy to do.” — Gwyneth Paltrow, Oscar-winning actress, #1 New York Times best-selling author of It’s All Easy, founder and CCO of GOOP.com “Anthony is a magician for all my label’s recording artists, and if he were a record album, he would far surpass Thriller. His ability is nothing short of profound, remarkable, extraordinary, and mind-blowing. He is a luminary whose books are filled with prophecies. This is the future of medicine.” — Craig Kallman, Chairman and CEO, Atlantic Records “Anthony’s books are revolutionary yet practical. For anybody frustrated by the current limits of Western medicine, this is definitely worth your time and consideration.” — James Van Der Beek, creator, executive producer, and star of What Would Diplo Do? and star of Dawson’s Creek, and Kimberly Van Der Beek, public speaker and activist “Since reading Medical Medium Thyroid Healing, I have expanded my approach and treatments of thyroid disease and am seeing enormous value for patients. The results are rewarding and gratifying.” — from the foreword by Prudence Hall, M.D., founder and medical director of The Hall Center, author of Radiant Again & Forever “Anthony is not only a warm, compassionate healer, he is also authentic and accurate, with God-given skills. He has been a total blessing in my life.” — Naomi Campbell, model, actress, activist “My family and friends have been the recipients of Anthony’s inspired gift of healing, and we’ve benefited more than I can express with rejuvenated physical and mental health.” — Scott Bakula, producer and star of NCIS: New Orleans; star of Basmati Blues, Star Trek: Enterprise, and Quantum Leap “Anthony is a wonderful person. He identified some long-term health issues for me, he knew what supplements I needed, and I felt better immediately.” — Rashida Jones, producer and star of Angie Tribeca; creator and executive producer of Hot Girls Wanted documentary series; co-star of Parks and Recreation, The Office, and The Social Network “Anthony William is one of those rare individuals who uses his gifts to help people rise up to meet their full potential by becoming their own best health advocates . . . I witnessed Anthony’s greatness in action firsthand when I attended one of his thrilling live events. I equate how spot-on his readings were with a singer hitting all the high notes. But beyond the high notes, Anthony’s truly compassionate soul is what left the audience captivated. Anthony William is someone I am now proud to call a friend, and I can tell you that the person you hear on the podcasts and whose words fill the pages of best-selling books is the same person who reaches out to loved ones simply to lend support. This is not an act! Anthony William is the real deal, and the gravity of the information he shares through Spirit is priceless and empowering and much needed in this day and age!” — Debbie Gibson, Broadway star, iconic singer-songwriter “Anthony’s gift has made him a conduit for information that is light-years ahead of where science is today.” — Christiane Northrup, M.D., New York Times best-selling author of Making Life Easy, Goddesses Never Age, and Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom “How very much we have been moved and benefited from the discovery of Anthony and the Compassion Spirit, who can reach us with healing wisdom through Anthony’s sensitive genius and caring mediumship. His book is truly ‘wisdom of the future,’ so already now, miraculously, we have the clear, accurate explanation of the many mysterious illnesses that the ancient Buddhist medical texts predicted would afflict us in this era when over-clever people have tampered with the elements of life in the pursuit of profit.” — Robert Thurman, Jey Tsong Khapa Professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies, Columbia University; President, Tibet House US; best-selling author of Man of Peace, Love Your Enemies, and Inner Revolution; host of Bob Thurman Podcast “Anthony William has a remarkable gift! I will always be grateful to him for discovering an under- lying cause of several health issues that had bothered me for years. With his kind support, I see improvements every day. I think he is a fabulous resource!” — Morgan Fairchild, actress, author, speaker “Anthony William’s God-given gift for healing is nothing short of miraculous.” — David James Elliott, Camera Store, Scorpion, Trumbo, Mad Men, CSI: NY; star for ten years of CBS’s JAG “Anthony William is the gifted Medical Medium who has very real and not-so-radical solutions to the mysterious conditions that affect us all in our modern world. I am beyond thrilled to know him personally and count him as a most valuable resource for my health protocols and those for my entire family.” — Annabeth Gish, Halt and Catch Fire, Scandal, Pretty Little Liars, The West Wing, Mystic Pizza “Anthony William has devoted his life to helping people with information that has truly made a substantial difference in the lives of many.” — Amanda de Cadenet, founder and CEO of The Conversation and the Girlgaze Project, author of It’s Messy and #girlgaze “I love Anthony William! My daughters Sophia and Laura gave me his book for my birthday, and I couldn’t put it down. The Medical Medium has helped me connect all the dots on my quest to achieve optimal health. Through Anthony’s work, I realized the residual Epstein-Barr left over from a childhood illness was sabotaging my health years later. Medical Medium has transformed my life.” — Catherine Bach, The Young and the Restless, The Dukes of Hazzard “In this world of confusion, with constant noise in the health and wellness field, I rely on Anthony’s profound authenticity. His miraculous, true gift rises above it all to a place of clarity.” — Patti Stanger, host of Million Dollar Matchmaker “Anthony William is a generous and compassionate guide. He has devoted his life to supporting people on their healing path.” — Gabrielle Bernstein, #1 New York Times best-selling author of Judgment Detox and The Universe Has Your Back “My recovery from a traumatic spinal crisis several years ago had been steady, but I was still experiencing muscle weakness, a tapped-out nervous system, as well as extra weight. A dear friend called me one evening and strongly recommended I read the book Medical Medium by Anthony William. So much of the information in the book resonated with me that I began incorporating some of the ideas, then I sought and was lucky enough to get a consultation. The reading was so spot-on, it has taken my healing to an unimagined, deeper, and richer level of health. My weight has dropped healthily, I can enjoy bike-riding and yoga, I’m back in the gym, I have steady energy, and I sleep deeply. Every morning when following my protocols, I smile and say, ‘Whoa, Anthony William! I thank you for your restorative gift . . . Yes!’” — Robert Wisdom, Flaked, Rosewood, Chicago P.D., Nashville, The Wire, Ray “I rely on Anthony William for my and my family’s health. Even when doctors are stumped, Anthony always knows what the problem is and the pathway for healing.” — Chelsea Field, NCIS: New Orleans, Secrets and Lies, Without a Trace, The Last Boy Scout “Information that WORKS. That’s what I think of when I think of Anthony William and his profound contributions to the world. Nothing made this fact so clear to me as seeing him work with an old friend who had been struggling for years with illness, brain fog, and fatigue. She had been to countless doctors and healers and had gone through multiple protocols. Nothing worked. Until Anthony talked to her that is . . . from there, the results were astounding. I highly recommend his books, lectures, and consultations. Don’t miss this healing opportunity!” — Nick Ortner, New York Times best-selling author of The Tapping Solution for Manifesting Your Greatest Self and The Tapping Solution “Twelve hours after receiving a heaping dose of self-confidence masterfully administered by Anthony, the persistent ringing in my ears of the last year . . . began to falter. I am astounded, grateful, and happy for the insights offered on moving forward.” — Mike Dooley, New York Times best-selling author of From Deep Space with Love and Infinite Possibilities, scribe of Notes from the Universe “Esoteric talent is only a complete gift when it’s shared with moral integrity and love. Anthony William is a divine combination of healing, giftedness, and ethics. He’s a real-deal healer who does his homework and shares it in true service to the world.” — Danielle LaPorte, best-selling author of White Hot Truth and The Desire Map “Anthony is a seer and a wellness sage. His gift is remarkable. With his guidance I’ve been able to pinpoint and address a health issue that’s been plaguing me for years.” — Kris Carr, New York Times best-selling author of Crazy Sexy Juice, Crazy Sexy Kitchen, and Crazy Sexy Diet “Anthony William is the Edgar Cayce of our time, reading the body with outstanding precision and insight. Anthony identifies the underlying causes of diseases that often baffle the most astute conventional and alternative health-care practitioners. Anthony’s practical and profound advice makes him one of the most powerfully effective healers of the 21st century.” — Ann Louise Gittleman, New York Times best-selling author of over 30 books on health and healing and creator of the highly popular Fat Flush detox and diet plan “As a Hollywood businesswoman, I know value. Some of Anthony’s clients spent over $1 million seeking help for their ‘mystery illness’ until they finally discovered him.” — Nanci Chambers, co-star of JAG; Hollywood producer and entrepreneur “Anthony William’s invaluable advice on preventing and combating disease is years ahead of what’s available anywhere else.” — Richard Sollazzo, M.D., New York board-certified oncologist, hematologist, nutritionist, and anti-aging expert and author of Balance Your Health “Whenever Anthony William recommends a natural way of improving your health, it works. I’ve seen this with my daughter, and the improvement was impressive. His approach of using natural ingredients is a more effective way of healing.” — Martin D. Shafiroff, financial advisor, past recipient of #1 Broker in America ranking by WealthManagement.com and #1 Wealth Advisor ranking by Barron’s “I had a health reading from Anthony, and he accurately told me things about my body only known to me. This kind, sweet, hilarious, self-effacing, and generous man—also so ‘otherworldly’ and so extraordinarily gifted, with an ability that defies how we see the world—has shocked even me, a medium! He is truly our modern-day Edgar Cayce, and we are immensely blessed that he is with us. Anthony William proves that we are more than we know.” — Colette Baron-Reid, best-selling author of Uncharted and TV host of Messages from Spirit “Any quantum physicist will tell you there are things at play in the universe we can’t yet under- stand. I truly believe Anthony has a handle on them. He has an amazing gift for intuitively tap- ping into the most effective methods for healing.” — Caroline Leavitt, New York Times best-selling author of The Kids’ Family Tree Book, Cruel Beautiful World, Is This Tomorrow, and Pictures of You “He was the answer to my desperate prayer. “The moment arrived when I had given up knowing what was next. Holding my head heavy in my hands, sobbing uncontrollably at the kitchen table, not knowing which way to turn, I realized I had finally hit a wall. Through the streaming tears and heaving sobs, I whispered what I vowed never to do: ‘I give up.’ I have nothing left in knowing what is next, I pleaded to the darkness. I prayed for answers. “Calvin’s stomach pain had never ceased after a simple upper respiratory cold and stomach upset in January, during his favorite time of year: snowboarding season. Since then, it had been five months of consistent doctor visits, herbs and supplements, acupuncture and energetic healing work, hypnotherapy and homeopathy, psychology, medical tests and procedures, paperwork and phone calls, lab tests and consultations, medicine and vitamins, more tests, and numerous ER visits in snowstorms—all leading to a dead end and no hope in sight, with my son’s condition only slowly worsening over time. “I had lost faith. I had lost faith in the medical system, in the human ability to be able to help, to have any answers. I was exhausted physically and emotionally, broken down by the relentlessness of my son’s undiagnosable stomach pain and no hope for healing. I had tried everything I could possibly imagine and more. “At this point, I was told that it was all in his head and to try the ‘psychiatric route,’ as they believed there was no physical reason for his condition. I had exhausted every possibility over the months of exploration with many, many practitioners across the spectrum and even revisited some of them to ask, ‘Are you sure we have ruled out everything? Are you sure we have not missed something?’ “I refused to give up. “Although his unexplained stomach pain did not fit in any clear diagnosable box, and only continued to worsen, it was clear everyone else was done with him, as their bedside manners became unsupportive. “Leaving a medical office one day, pushing my son in a wheelchair (because it was now too painful and tiring for him to walk much) down the long corridor of the medical center from which we had spent many, many hours over many months, my ten-year-old son looked up at me and said, ‘They aren’t on our side, Mom.’ “Through the tears I nodded and said, ‘Don’t you worry, Buddy. I am ALWAYS on your side. I have not given up, and I will not give up. I am not done.’ I tried to hide the uneasiness and the look of ‘Now what?’ “Not long after, I found myself at that kitchen table in despair, praying in the dark. My child was suffering every single day, moaning in pain every single day, and I was helpless, not able to do anything to help ease his suffering, despite the months of determined and persistent efforts. No one understood, no one had the answers, and as much as I knew that it was painful for others to witness, which many friends told me, it was more painful to live in the grueling experiences of a sick child in agonizing pain every day, only to have his condition worsen to being bedridden, with clouded mental faculties that prevented him from reading and doing math work or any work that required mental focus. “Then, the answer to my prayer arrived through a text from my mother explaining she had found someone who I should check out named Anthony William. I looked him up on his website and I felt chills enter my body, chills of hope as I read through his website. I sent an email explaining my plight. Anthony William knew what was ailing my son within the first three minutes of our phone conversation, explaining that Calvin had a mutated shingles virus inflaming his vagus nerve. This explained the nerve pain and the lack of physical evidence in any blood work or other existing diagnostic tools. It also explained the reason behind the mental/brain struggle in Calvin’s reading and schoolwork. “Anthony reassured me that this was a physical cause for his ‘mystery illness’ and was NOT psychological. Tears ran down my face—my gut instinct finally being acknowledged as true. He was the ONLY person who had ever been able to pinpoint so confidently, quickly, and accurately a direction for healing. “Anthony proceeded to flood me with information that would aid in my son’s healing, which I vigorously wrote down. He was deeply caring and reassuring. He was available to me when I needed him for follow-up calls (even in the middle of the night), emotional support, and as my cheerleader to keep me going as Calvin recovered. Anthony understood the intense stress placed on our whole family as we endured the intensity of his painful illness for so long without any progress. He never failed in his delivery to be supportive and compassionate. “Over the course of the next two months, staying true to the protocol, my son healed. He was back to being himself, an active, engaged, happy, pain-free ten-year-old boy. Five years later, my son continues to thrive without any setbacks in his health. I am forever grateful for Anthony for saving my son’s life, for restoring my faith in the human ability to be of help, and for supporting faith in my own inner wisdom when it comes to my gut instinct as a mother. “It is clear how deeply committed Anthony is to his work in serving others in order that they may have the possibility to lead healthy, vibrant lives. He truly is a gift to the world.” — Kristin Cassidy “In 2015, my previously healthy five-year-old daughter started to develop neurological issues such as wobbly legs, frequent falls, an inability to walk when going from sitting to standing, general weakness, and decreased strength. She was at the point of thirty leg episodes a day, and it was worsening week by week. We went to different specialists at one of the best children’s hospitals—no answers, other than a neurologist’s label of paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia. Being a nurse for ten years and my medical community not providing me answers about why my daughter was getting worse was a hard pill to swallow. It hit home too hard. “At first, I was too scared to contact Anthony William about my daughter, because we hadn’t yet ruled out a brain/spine tumor, and I was so scared to hear the truth. But after some time, I got an appointment with Anthony, and he explained everything—that my daughter had a specific virus that he knew about in her brain. In that moment, I felt like I became a different person. Hearing the truth from Anthony William and having a protocol to follow literally changed me forever! I got hope! With my daughter on the protocol, my family and I started to see improvements in her. She stopped falling, was getting stronger, and her leg episodes were fewer and fewer! Now, a year later, she is the strongest she has ever been and can physically function like any six-year-old. I believe angels from above led me to Anthony William just when I needed him the most. Forever grateful!” — Justyna Siek “Anthony William changed by son’s life for the better in 2007. My son was lethargic, pale, and struggled with a chronic asthmatic cough. He had a lack of appetite and did not have energy to participate in much activity. After visiting multiple doctors in several different states without any answers except ‘asthma’ and medications to treat the asthmatic symptoms, I was fortunate enough to have a session with Anthony William where he gave me specific information about the source of my son’s problems as well as holistic ways in which to repair them. Nine years later, my son is a high-level athlete who is thriving in all areas of his life. It is hard to express the gratitude I feel toward Anthony William for his invaluable insight that directly led to my son’s amazing recovery into the teenager I always hoped he could be—active, healthy, happy, and enjoying life with a smile on his face and boundless energy!” — Eva Thompson About the Author ANTHONY WILLIAM, #1 New York Times best-selling author of Medical Medium Life-Changing Foods: Save Yourself and the Ones You Love with the Hidden Healing Powers of Fruits & Vegetables and Medical Medium: Secrets Behind Chronic and Mystery Illness and How to Finally Heal, was born with the unique ability to converse with a high-level spirit who provides him with extraordinarily accurate health information that’s often far ahead of its time. "In The Genius of One, you'll enjoy Greg's humor and his humility, but your greatest takeaway will be how your influence and leadership in embracing our oneness in Christ is the first step toward changing the world." RICHARD STEARNS | President of World Vision U.S. and author of "The Hole in Our Gospel" "This compelling book will help you celebrate Jesus' call to reveal himself by the way we relate." DAN B. ALLENDER, Ph.D. | Professor of Counseling Psychology & Founding President of The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology "This book not only envisions the possibilities of what we are called to be as one body, but Holder gives us colorful pictures and practical nuts and bolts of how we can be the answer to Jesus' prayer of true oneness." DR. DAVID ANDERSON | Author of "Gracism: The Art of Inclusion" Perhaps the one thing that most hinders the world-changing mission of the church is its lack of unity. Jesus prayed in John 17 that his church would be “one” so that the world would believe that God had sent him. In The Genius of One, you’ll enjoy Greg’s humor and his humility, but your greatest takeaway will be how your influence and leadership in embracing our oneness in Christ is the first step toward changing the world. (Richard Stearns, President of World Vision US) Greg Holder is a trusted guide to lead you on a journey to discover God’s heart for unity. His instructive encouragement is impeccable. In our divided culture, I can’t imagine a more timely and critical message. (Gabe Lyons, President of Q Ideas) A rare book and a rare author. In teaching, who combines insight into Scripture that goes beyond commentary, a flair for the narrative, humor that’s funny and not merely amusing, and illustrations that illuminate instead of reiterate? This guy―Greg Holder―that’s who. The Genius of One is a profound unpacking of a profound thesis―everything worth anything in this world is rooted in the oneness of God. Do we know this? Did we know this and then forget? I’m not sure, but I’ve never seen it as clearly as I do now. Thanks, Greg. This book is a gem. (Rick James, Publisher of CruPress and author of Watch and A Million Ways to Die) The Genius of One is a cynic buster. For more than forty years I have been involved in Kingdom matters, and I have suffered enough fools and my own foolishness to guffaw when I consider unity in the body of Christ. I love Greg and respect him enormously, but a book on what it means to be one in the church seemed as unlikely as seventy is the new fifty. His playful, hilarious, heartfelt, theologically profound invitation to risk humbly for unity is a clarion call in a world as fractured and toxic as ours. This compelling book will help you celebrate Jesus’ call to reveal him by the way we relate. (Dan B. Allender, PhD, Professor of counseling psychology) Greg Holder has written a clear and vivid piece on how we can actually attain peace through The Genius of One. This book not only envisions the possibilities of what we are called to be as one body; it also gives us colorful pictures and the practical nuts and bolts of how we can be the answer to Jesus’ prayer of true oneness. (Dr. David A. Anderson, Author of Gracism: The Art of Inclusion) The Genius of One is a practitioner’s handbook for how businesses, churches, and individuals can achieve more together than apart. Saturated with wisdom, humility, and lived experience, Holder offers one of the most gritty, earthy, and practical books on how believers can live out their common unity with God and one another in light of our many differences. "These are recipes anyone can make, yet Tila's approach remains true to the identity and origin of the dish. If you don't have an Asian grandmother, Tila's got you covered." - Milwaukee Journal Sentinal “This is the most practical guide to getting Asian flavors on the plate that I’ve ever seen.” ―Alton Brown “Finally! A cookbook that takes authentic Asian flavors and turns it on its head. Jet Tila has the LA kitchen cred to help you turn out unexpected, explosive flavors from his palate to your table. Jet is my Asian food guide. Now he can be yours.” ―Bobby Flay “If you’re looking to get down on some real deal Asian flavors, you gotta check out this book. Chef Jet not only knows what truly badass recipes are, he guides you through them in a way that only he could. This ain’t your grandma’s Asian cookbook!” ―Guy Fieri “This is the Asian cookbook that everyone needs from my friend and ultimate authority Jet Tila. His pedigree, passion and experience make him the ultimate authority in his field.” ―Alex Gaurnaschelli “Chef and media personality Jet Tila presents an inspiring collection of classic Asian dishes as well as novel riffs on them. Readers of all skill levels and heat tolerances will appreciate Tila’s instructions, which emphasize flavor without calling for hours of prep or multiple trips to specialty stores.” ―Publishers Weekly “Jet’s charm and easy going way dispel his amazing depth of knowledge of Asian foods and ingredients. He has a true lineage of cooking in his blood and it shows in these pages. 101 Asian Recipes You Need to Cook Before You Die is a book that is authentic, yet approachable. He's a trustworthy guy that I go to for great eats and questions. This book is one of my kitchen staples.” ―Scott Conant “I truly admire Jet’s enthusiasm for Asian flavors and love of street food. Passion is the key to good cooking and he has it! Wait until you get in and try some of these dishes. Jet gives you the guidelines and encouragement to do just that. Keep cooking and having fun!” ―Susan Feniger “From rice to meats to soup to vegetables, Chef Jet takes the mystery out of Asian cooking and, I promise, you will blow yourself away from the very first recipe you try.” ―Duff Goldman “I had never cooked. In one week, Jet got me to a level where I could compete (and come in second) on a cooking show with Rachel Ray. Cooking, teaching and writing . . . three unrelated skills and Jet has all of them in spades.” ―Penn Jillette From the Author A Kid From LA I grew up in the great city of Los Angeles, which is a perfect melting pot! Within a 10-mile radius, there was Thai Town, Koreatown, Little Tokyo, Boyle Heights, a Central American hood and little Phillipinotown. That meant I grew up eating these ethnic cuisines daily and had access to legendary institutions like Spago, Michael's and Border Grill. LA has such a unique culinary landscape and it's a city I love to the marrow. My Chinese grandparents moved to Thailand, where my parents were born, and then my parents came to LA in 1966. My grandmother was my first culinary teacher. I sat on the counter and watched her make dinner every night. As I got older, we'd take the bus to LA's Chinatown, eat dim sum, buy groceries for the day, then come home and cook. I saw thousands of dinners cooked in front of me and, eventually, I was able to help. I worked at my family's restaurants and markets. I got to see food in 360˚, from farm to market, market to restaurant, then cook to table. I had such a unique culinary upbringing, and that was just my first 15 years. Then the following years brought me to French culinary school, Japanese cooking school and then to working at some great restaurants in LA. I took my time working through many cooking schools as a culinary educator. After that, I did a stint in corporate dining, which brought me to one of the best hotel casinos in America. All that was before television. Then I lived my own version of Food Network Star, having been mentored by stars like Alton Brown, Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay. I bring all these years, these thousands of hours, to this book. I think there are two types of chefs in the world. The first type are the ones who want to innovate and create new combinations of flavors. And then there's the sort that I am, the artisans who want to study and cook the foods from the past that have profoundly influenced and interested them. I want to learn and cook the classics, become so intimately familiar with them, that I can understand where they came from. And I want to know why: why does this dish exist and why is it so delicious? In my opinion, the why takes us deeper into appreciating any dish. And it's my passion to translate it into common terms and make them easy to understand, to demystify them. I want to make them easy to cook in any home. My goal is to get you as close as possible to the authentic and delicious. But more, I want you to understand the mechanics of these ethnic cuisines. If you want to cook authentic, delicious food, just follow my directions using the right ingredients. But if you want to really understand the why, the essence of each cuisine, read. Read the chapter intros, the recipe headers for all the tips and tricks. The nuggets of knowledge are all there for you to take. But none of this works without actually cooking as many dishes as you are motivated to, over and over. Like anything you want to be good at, practice and have fun! This book has been 25 years in the making, and I hope it gives you a lifetime of joy.

Praise for I'm Just No Good at Rhyming: And Other Nonsense for Mischievous Kids and Immature Grown-Ups: *"A frolicking romp through the zany world of nonsense verse.... Visual, aural, and downright guffaw-inspiring puns and riddles abound in this wildly imaginative and cleverly illustrated debut collection. The inspired and inspiring sense of play knows no bounds." ―Kirkus Reviews, starred review *"Those who claim to hate poetry will enjoy this riotous compilation.... Fans of Ogden Nash, Shel Silverstein, and Jack Prelutsky will rejoice in finding another member of their gang. Smith matches Harris's wit with his own zaniness.... This moving, madcap anthem to language is sure to stand the test of time." ―Booklist, starred review "I am a grown man and this book made me laugh out loud. When I was a kid, this was the kind of book that made me want to make comedy." ―Jason Segel, actor, screenwriter, producer, and author of Nightmares! Love this book!" ―Andrea Beaty, bestselling author of Rosie Revere, Engineer "There once was a poet named Chris, Whose book is quite hard to dismiss, His poetry skill Gives me quite a thrill, And it's hard to write poetry, particularly if it's supposed to rhyme or fit into a certain rhythm, and if you don't believe me, take a look at this." ―Lemony Snicket, bestselling author of A Series of Unfortunate Events and All the Wrong Questions "I doubt that you'll ever read another book this clever, brilliant, or fun--but if you do, you'll say that that book is a Chris Harris-y one." ―Esta Spalding, screenwriter and author of Look Out for the Fitzgerald-Trouts "Hate to laugh? Love feeling blue? Are you quite dull? And dreary, too? Too bad, these rhymes are NOT FOR YOU." ―Emily Jenkins, author of Upside-Down Magic and Toys Go Out "Chris Harris is one of the funniest, sharpest, cleverest (not a word) writers I've ever known (and I'm not just saying that because we share a last name). Our Secular Age: Ten Years of Reading and Applying Charles Taylor "As Christians, we sometimes misunderstand not only the answers our secular neighbors have but the questions they are asking
31
$16.55 USD

"As Christians, we sometimes misunderstand not only the answers our secular neighbors have but the questions they are asking too. No philosopher has offered more insight regarding the state of belief in the modern age than Charles Taylor. In Our Secular Age, first-rate evangelical scholars and practitioners deliver 13 essays in which they explore and apply Taylor's thought. This work will benefit all Christians by teaching them to communicate the gospel to a secular culture with neither ignorance nor fear." Russell Moore, president, Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention "To be secular, says philosopher Charles Taylor, is to have no final goals beyond this-worldly human flourishing. This is only one of the many insights from which pastors can profit from Taylor's work in their ministry of the gospel to an age that has substituted spirituality and authenticity for religion and doctrine. The essays in this helpful volume do more than borrow from Taylor: they engage, question, develop, and occasionally criticize his influential account of our complex cultural moment in which we all--moderns and postmoderns, millennials and non-millennials--are trying to live, move, and have our being as disciples of Jesus Christ. Reading and applying the insights of those who have read and applied Taylor is a salutary exercise in understanding oneself and others in an age that is not only secular, but fragile, frustrated, and confused." Kevin J. Vanhoozer, research professor of systematic theology, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School "Easily one of the best books I've read this year. Here is wisdom from Taylor, received with appreciation and appropriate criticism, with application for Christians on mission in North America in the 21st century." Trevin Wax, Bible and reference publisher at B&H, author of This Is Our Time: Everyday Myths In Light of the Gospel "Charles Taylor's A Secular Age is a landmark book, and the essays collected here ponder it intelligently and charitably. Some echo Taylor, some extend his ideas, some contest his claims, but all engage his argument with a seriousness that the book deserves--and that Christ's church needs." Alan Jacobs, distinguished professor of humanities in the honors program at Baylor University and author of How to Think: A Survival Guide for a World at Odds "Though this book will help you to understand, appreciate, and critically engage with Charles Taylor, that's not its real benefit. Read it mainly for a dozen fascinating conversations about a different area of the church's life, and learning how to better engage our culture in our present secular age." To Heaven and Back: A Doctor's Extraordinary Account of Her Death, Heaven, Angels, and Life Again: A True Story Q&A with Mary C. Neal, M.D. Q. How did you feel when you died? Did you know what was happening? A. I was acutely aware of
1
$11.42 USD

Q&A with Mary C. Neal, M.D. Q. How did you feel when you died? Did you know what was happening? A. I was acutely aware of everything that was happening. I knew that my efforts to exit the boat were not working, that I was out of air, and that I was too far from the riverbank for anyone to reach me. I knew that I would probably die. Having grown up with a fear of drowning, I was surprised to find my transition from life to death was seamless, peaceful, and beautiful. I felt quite wonderful. Q. What was your faith life like before your death? A. Before my near-death-experience, I believed in God and took my kids to Sunday school but was not particularly religious. Like many accomplished young adults, I felt like I was in control of my life and my future. Although I tried to be a "good" and "moral" person, my faith was not integrated into my daily life and the demands of work and family left little time to think about spirituality. With my near-death-experience, the truth of God's promises and the reality of eternal life became a part of my every breath. I am in constant prayer and regardless of what I am doing, I try to reflect God's love and live for His glory. I try not to miss opportunities to uplift or encourage the spiritual life of others, and I live with gratitude and joy, knowing that I never face challenges alone. Q. Why do you think you came back to life? A. I certainly didn't want to return to Earth, but was given information about some of the work I had yet to complete and wasn't really given a choice. I was expected to share my experiences and my story with others, helping transform their faith into compete trust that God keeps His promises. Q. Do you have any regrets about this experience? A. I have not a hint of regret. In fact, my death and return to life is the greatest gift I have ever received, and I am continually grateful for having had this experience. Q. How do you explain why this happened to you? A. I have always been a private person, am not known to be a writer, and do not relish the attention of speaking. I have been asked this question many times. I do not know the answer, but I am a scientist by training, a skeptic by nature, and a very concrete, rational thinker. Perhaps, I was given this job because I have a developed a lifetime of credibility. Q. How is your experience compared to others who've gone to heaven and come back to physical life? A. I have not read many accounts of other people's experiences, but I have had many patients over the years tell me about their own near-death experiences. It seems that most stories, mine included, contain some consistent elements--that of an overwhelming sense of God's love and forgiveness, intense peace and beauty and no desire to return to Earth. Everyone recalls the details with precision and each person is profoundly affected by the experience. In these ways, my experience is quite similar. Q. What do you want people to know about heaven? A. God's unconditional love for each of us is intense, complete, and is reflected in all of Heaven. Before we return to Heaven, our real home, we have an incredible opportunity on Earth to face challenges that will help us learn, grow and to become more Christ-like in the fruits of our spirit. Our time is so short that we need to be about God's business every day. About the Author Mary C. Neal, M.D. is an orthopaedic surgeon. $13.41 USD

From School Library Journal PreSchool-K—This is a deceptively simple color and counting book that turns into a lesson on bullying. Whenever they meet, Blue is picked on by Red: "Red is HOT. Blue is NOT." The other colors like Blue but are intimidated by the bluster so they say nothing, and soon Red is bossing everyone around. But then One comes. It is funny and brave and confronts Red: "If someone is mean and picks on me, I, for One, stand up and say, No." All the other colors follow One's lead and become numbers too. Yellow is two, Green, three, etc. Red begins to feel left out and tries to bully Blue, but Blue ignores him and changes to Six: "Red can be really HOT,' he says, but Blue can be super COOL.'" The rest of the numbers stick up for Blue, but offer Red the opportunity to join in the counting, and all ends well. The book is well designed with bright colored circles and numbers on stark white pages accompanied by black print. The text is very simple but meaningful, and the moral is subtly told. Red is not ostracized but included in the game, and the essential point of one person making a difference is emphasized by the ending: "Sometimes it just takes One." This is an offering with great potential for use with the very young in a variety of ways.—Judith Constantinides, formerly at East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library, LA Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. From Booklist *Starred Review* There are many stories about bullies, but few have looked at the subject in such an attractive, original way. Using round splashes of watercolors as their personas, Otoshi introduces a group of colors. Quiet Blue likes looking at the sky. The other colors have their own characteristics: Orange is outgoing; Green is bright; Purple is regal. Red, though, is a hothead and likes to tease: “Red is hot. Blue is not.” Blue feels bad, and though the other colors comfort him, they’re afraid of Red. In a dramatic and effective spread, Red, feeling mean, grows into a bigger, ever-angrier ball. Enter One. The sturdy numeral wins over the other colors with laughter, making Red even madder, but when he tries his bullying ways on One, One stands up to him. The other colors follow, turning Red into a small ball. He is rolling away when Blue gracefully offers him a chance to be counted. The use of colors and numbers gives the story a much-needed universality, and there is a visceral power in the “strength-in-numbers” gambit (although it should be noted that it can work for ill as well as good). Otoshi cleverly offers a way to talk to very young children about the subject of bullying, even as she helps put their imaginations to work on solutions. Preschool-Grade 1. --Ilene Cooper
